A louvred roof veranda, or louvred pergola, is an aluminium canopy with a roof of aluminium blades that turn at the press of a button: open them for sun and fresh air, close them for shade and shelter from the rain. Apex Verandas supplies and fits louvred and retractable roofs across Northern Ireland from our Ballymoney showroom, wall-mounted or freestanding, with a fixed quote after we measure.

How a louvred roof works
- Open: tilt the blades to let light and air through, or angle them against the low evening sun.
- Closed: the blades shut tight and rain runs off into the built-in gutter, so you can stay outside through a shower.
- Control: the blades are motorised, so the roof opens and closes from a switch or remote.
- Fitting: wall-mounted against the house, or freestanding anywhere in the garden.
You will also see them called louvered pergolas, bioclimatic pergolas or canopies with an adjustable roof. They are the same idea.

Three opening roofs to choose from
Pinela Louvred
Our standard louvred roof. The aluminium blades tilt open and closed, with LED lighting built into the frame. Widths run from about 3m to 6m (10ft to 20ft) and depths from 3m to 4m (10ft to 13ft), and units can be joined side by side for a longer run.
Pinela Louvred Plus+
A heavier frame for bigger patios and decking. The blades tilt further, up to 120 degrees, and it spans up to 7m (23ft) on just two front posts, so the view out stays open.
Pinela Retractable
Instead of tilting, the roof panels slide back to open up to 79% of the roof, the nearest thing to sitting under the open sky. Slide them closed again when the weather turns.
Close it in for use all year
Any of the three can stay open on all sides or be closed in. Add frameless glass sliding doors to the front and sides, louvred or aluminium side walls for privacy, or screens against the wind and sun. With glass on three sides, a louvred roof veranda becomes a glass room that opens right up in summer.
Louvred roof or a fixed glass roof?
Choose a louvred roof if you want to control the light and air: open it on a warm day, close it when it rains. A fixed glass roof veranda lets in the most light all year round and usually costs less, and a folding fabric roof gives shade that folds away. We will talk you through all three at the site visit, or come and see the frames and glass doors at our Ballymoney showroom.

What does a louvred roof veranda cost?
A louvred roof costs more than a fixed polycarbonate or glass roof because of the motorised blades and the heavier frame. The price depends on the width and depth, whether it is wall-mounted or freestanding, and what you add to the sides. We measure your space and give you a fixed quote. Our veranda cost guide shows worked examples for other roof types.

Louvred roof questions
Is a louvred roof waterproof?
Yes. With the blades closed, rain runs off into the gutter. In strong wind some rain can blow in at the open sides, so add glass doors or side walls if you want full shelter.
Can a louvred roof be freestanding?
Yes. Each model can be wall-mounted against the house or stand on its own posts anywhere in the garden.
How long does it take to fit?
Lead time is usually 6 to 8 weeks from order. Fitting usually takes 1 to 4 days, depending on the size and whether it is being closed in with glass.
Can I buy a louvred roof supply only?
Yes, supply only is available if you have your own installer.
